DATES & PEOPLE
How to choose the right date type
A date type is a useful template. It gives the date an appropriate shape without deciding what the moment means to you.
Use personal types for people
Birthday, anniversary and remembrance types work well when the date is closely connected to a person or relationship. Linking the person keeps context close.
Use practical types for tasks
Appointments, subscription renewals, domain renewals and document expiry dates may need a provider, reference, time or lead time more than a contact.
Choose Custom without hesitation
Custom is the right choice for traditions, recovery milestones, cultural days, first meetings and anything with its own name. It can still recur and carry reminders.
Prefer the meaning over perfect taxonomy
If two types could work, select the one whose fields and language feel clearest. A good title and note matter more than a theoretically perfect category.
COMMON QUESTIONS
A few useful answers.
Can I change a date type later?
Yes. Review the fields after changing it because the new type may ask for different details.
What if a date belongs to more than one type?
Choose the purpose that matters for the reminder. You can use a note to preserve the second meaning.
Is Custom less capable than a built-in type?
No. It is intentionally flexible; built-in types mainly make common setup choices quicker.
